Bead & Button Breast Cancer Awareness Wall Hanging

Posted on

This is the album showcasing a wall hanging created as a collective group project by EBEG. 12 members in total participated, with 4 of these members making 2 blocks, giving a total of 16 squares. The idea of doing this project was originally by Miranda Groenendaal of Mirlady, who lead the project, and the final construction was done by Meg Thompson of ABeadedWorld. The final construction took several months, and was completed on 30/5/2013. Each square was sent un-backed and un-edged to Meg, who then backed all the squares (including her own) with pink leather, and edged them all with size 8 Rainbow Rosaline beads. The squares were then joined together in a lattice network, using white pearl and rose silver-lined pink seed beads, and rose pink bicone beads, in a netted pattern. Each line of each row of netted lattice took approximately 1 hour, making 1 whole row approximately 2 hours. The hanger was made by beading around the middle of a pine ‘pole’ and attaching material and a rope-cord to either end. Each square was required to have both the Rainbow Rosaline and Gold Lined Green Tea seed beads present, as a degree of uniformity to the project as a whole. The overall theme of the wall hanging is Tropical. The name and shop of each participating artist is listed in each photo of the close up squares.

This wall hanging will be auctioned off at the Bead and Button Show this month (June 2013) with all proceeds going towards Breast Cancer (hence why the Rainbow Rosaline seed bead color, a shade of pink, was chosen, as a representation of this cause). Stay tuned for results! To go to each artist’s shop type in the shop name into a URL browser tab and add to the name, and it will take you straight to the shop. Well done to everyone involved for all your hard work!!! The photos have been narrated by Meg, any more photos added by another person will be narrated by another person.
